When you listen to live performed music you may expect the artist to play a certain program he has prepared. But actually when I am performing live I haven’t prepared much. I want to improvise the whole show from the beginning to the end. The reason is simple: I am preparing and thinking so much about the studio works that it is a relief to just let go and see where a path leads to. This is pretty fun since neither I nor the audience know what will happen. It is possible that it ends up being an audible mess or that the room is filled up with excitement and pleasure.
To me this is the only good way to perform live since especially electronic music easily tends to be made of prepared sequences and sounds. It is pretty easy to fail if nothing is prepared but I need that kind of positive stress to focus entirely on what I am doing. It is easy to get totally lost in time and space when being in the creative process. I totally love that feeling and it makes me very happy when people tell me they felt that way too after a show.

Location: Alte Dorfkirche, Hausen
This is a live improvisation I have performed for the closing event of Group V’s exhibition at the defiled church in Hausen. The exhibition was about AI in contemporary art. Therefore I used my hybrid modular system to create a vibrant sound design focussed on pure analog signals colliding with digital signals. I wanted to force both sonic worlds to compete against each other, fighting about the dominance who is controlling whom.

This is a modular improvisation I have performed live at Alte Dorfkirche (Hausen, Germany) May 7th 2023 during the exhibition “Insight Japan” by Isabella Burkhardt and “Wooden Objects” by Jens Schmittner. The soundscape is part of my regular performance “Abdriften” I have developed to actually work for small groups only, but here for a larger audience. This time the sound was enhanced by the beautiful reverbs inside the church.

I have performed “Maschinenraum” live improvisation as the final part of the Creator exhibition by Konrad Franz in Hausen, July 2020. It was performed within the defiled church, which has an impressive ambience. So I had to improvise with the given acoustic conditions. This performance was very satisfactory for me to play as I could manage to realize some very interesting moments. I hope you enjoy.

Expresión Corporal is an artistic performance with dancers. The sound was performed and recorded live with Jule Bauer singing and playing the Nyckelharpa while I was playing my Eurorack modular system. The whole project is about fusing different kinds of art into one experimental and expressive live act. The maxim is: “Acrobatics becomes speech, music becomes scene.” My thanks to all artists and performers.
The ICO Obernburg is celebrating its 100th anniversary. Therefore a lot of great artists were showing photos, sculptures, paintings. But there was music too and so I had the chance to create half an installation and half a performance the whole day long in a beautiful old working space. I was deeply focussing on working with the ambience of the room itself but also with the visitors coming and leaving. There are 17 takes I have recorded to show how my work has evolved over time.

Creator is a collaboration of Konrad Franz and LIN/LOG. Konrad came up with the idea making an exhibition of specific sculptures he made dealing with the subject “the human process of creation”. It is not only about today but also about future processes of how humans create. It is an inversed perspective of the artist looking at the process of art being made. My task was to design an audible environment that reflects and expands Konrad’s intentions. So I created a self-playing patch with my portable modular system that was developing over a long period. It contains many evolving sound sources and pseudo random events which makes it a very dynamic experience, especially because it was performed as a quadrophonic setup. What you hear are five cutouts of a period of four hours. I have recorded the sound directly from the modular but also the environment inside the defiled church, where the exhibition took place.
